Advanced IT Apprenticeships with Information Horizons

What are Apprenticeships?
Apprenticeships are your chance to study for practical skills and qualifications that employers really value, and at the same time gain real world experience by working for an employer.

Why do an Advanced IT Apprenticeship?
One of the most significant skills gaps in ICT in London is the development and implementation of IT systems and services – so if you enrol on the Advanced Apprenticeship, your chances of getting a great job and a career at the cutting edge are high .

What training will I receive?
With the Advanced Apprenticeship, you’ll extend your existing knowledge of industry standard software packages to advanced level, including Windows, Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Access. You’ll work towards an ITQ (Information Technology Qualification) at level 3, the equivalent of 2 or more A levels and will also take a Certificate in ICT Applications.

You’ll get a grounding in web design, understand how to troubleshoot problems with hardware and software, diagnose and fix faults and give technical advice and guidance to others. You’ll learn how to install and upgrade hardware and software and gain an understanding of leading edge technology such as VoIP (Voice over IP).

You'll also learn other Key Skills that are essential for career progression, including Communication and Application of Number, depending on your prior GSCE achievements.

Where does the training take place?
Your foundation, core training will take place at Information Horizons modern, fully equipped Training Centre near Holborn in central London. Alongside the training, you’ll have a work placement so that you can put those skills into practice, and gain real world work experience.

You'll have a mentor who will support you and help you to complete your on-the-job and off-the job training, and will work with you to develop your CV, job interview techniques and help with job search.

How much will I get paid?
You'll receive £30 per week when you're training and up to £50 per week on your work placement.

After your work placement, we’ll help you to find a good, full-time job. Your employer will pay you a salary that reflects your skills, experience, age and ability. Some employers may give you a bonus or pay rise linked to how well you progress in training and in the job.

How long does the Apprenticeship take?
The Advanced IT Apprenticeship will take up to 12 months in total. If you’re successful in your job search, you could be in full-time paid employment within 3 to 6 months of starting, and complete your Apprenticeship as an employee earning a good salary.
