IT User Apprenticeships with Information Horizons

What are Apprenticeships?
Apprenticeships are your chance to study for practical skills and qualifications that employers really value, and at the same time gain real world experience by working for an employer. The IT User Apprenticeship covers the use of IT in the workplace, providing skills which can be applied to many job functions and roles.

Why do an IT User Apprenticeship?
Recent research shows that more than 90% of new jobs in the UK require the use of Information and Communication Technology, yet more than half of UK employers feel that their staff do not have sufficiently developed IT User skills – so the IT qualifications you will gain are extremely valuable in the job market.

What training will I receive?
You'll get in-depth, hands-on training in today's most widely used business software packages, including Windows, Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Access. You’ll work towards an ITQ - the new Information Technology Qualification - at level 2, the equivalent of 5 GCSEs at grades A-C.

You'll also learn other Key Skills that are essential for career progression in any role across a variety of industries. Key Skills may include Communication and Application of Number, depending on your prior GSCE achievements.

Where does the training take place?
Your foundation, core training will take place at Information Horizons modern, fully equipped Training Centre near Holborn in central London. Alongside the training, you’ll have a work placement so that you can put those skills into practice, and gain real world work experience.

You'll have a mentor who will support you and help you to complete your on-the-job and off-the job training, and will work with you to develop your CV, job interview techniques and help with job search.

How much will I get paid?
You'll receive £30 per week when you're training and up to £50 per week on your work placement.

After your work placement, we’ll help you to find a good, full-time job. Your employer will pay you a salary that reflects your skills, experience, age and ability. Some employers may give you a bonus or pay rise linked to how well you progress in training and in the job.

How long does the Apprenticeship take?
The IT User Apprenticeship will take up to 9 months in total. If you’re successful in your job search, you could be in full-time paid employment within 3 to 6 months of starting, and complete your Apprenticeship as an employee earning a good salary.
