ITQ Level 1 (Foundation) course overview

This course assumes that delegates are familiar with using the keyboard and mouse, and have access to a computer to practice their skills. By the end of the course, delegates will have solid knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, and be able to use the Internet with confidence. Delegates will also put together a portfolio of work to achieve their ITQ level 1 qualification.

Word Foundation

This course covers the basics of Microsoft Word, to enable delegates to create professionally presented documents quickly and efficiently.
Delegates will learn to:

  • Work with text
  • Format text using bold, underline and different fonts
  • Apply bullets and numbering
  • Create borders and shading
  • Insert headers and footers
  • Insert pictures and images
  • Create a table
  • Spell check documents

Excel Foundation

This course gives delegates a solid foundation in using Excel to produce professionally presented spreadsheets. Delegates will learn to:

  • Create spreadsheets using formulae to link cells
  • Use the Sum and AutoSum functions
  • Work with text, numbers, dates and times
  • Format data using borders, patterns and colours
  • Sort Data
  • Print spreadsheets, add headers and footers and set page breaks
  • Create charts such as pie charts and bar charts

Internet Explorer

This course covers the use of Internet Explorer to enable delegates to efficiently use the Internet to quickly locate and browse information. To stay safe whilst using the Internet, security and issues relating to laws and guidelines are also covered. Delegates will learn to:

  • Understand Internet jargon
  • Browse web pages
  • Use the Toolbar (Back, Forward, Stop, Refresh, Home)
  • Create and use links to favourites web sites
  • Search for information using different search engines
  • Use web directories and on-line forms
  • Download files from the Web
  • Follow "etiquette" rules
  • Understand security, data protection and copyright
