ITQ - Information Technology Qualification

The ITQ is a new IT user qualification and training package which is based on today’s most widely used software packages. It is the first of a new breed of National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) designed in partnership with employers, in response to the increasing demand in the workplace for computer skills.

The Information Horizons ITQ programme consists of a highly practical series of hands-on courses, with 4-5 modules and a work based assessment. The modules can be chosen from the following 6 options:

  • Operate a computer using Windows XP
  • Email and Internet using Outlook and Internet Explorer
  • Word processing using Word
  • Spreadsheets using Excel
  • Presentations using PowerPoint
  • Databases using Access

Comprehensive training (up to 7 days, normally spread over several months) will be provided on selected modules. Candidates will sit a short online test or build a portfolio of work to demonstrate knowledge of the application.

The work based assessment (Making selective use of IT) requires the candidate to put together a portfolio of work which will demonstrate the use and application of IT skills in the work place. The majority of this portfolio will be electronic, for example copies of relevant Excel spreadsheets and emails sent. An Information Horizons trainer will advise and guide the candidate on structuring and completing this portfolio.

On successful completion of the 4-5 modules and the work based assessment, the candidate will be awarded the ITQ qualification and will receive a qualification certificate.
